Since Music Stages was founded in 2005, dramaturg and director Carel Alphenaar has been artistic director Michael Gieler’s constant collaborator. With an impeccable instinct for form and building suspense, he ensures that the concerts shine not only as acoustic performances but also as theatrical productions. This is made possible not only by his wealth of experience as a theater maker with the Centrum theater company and at De Balie, but also—and not least—by his vast knowledge of the chamber music repertoire. Carel is also an accomplished amateur cellist and was one of the driving forces behind the Resistance Orchestra.
