The Latvian singer and composer Laura Polence has lived in Amsterdam since 2007. Drawing on her background in Latvian folk music and during her academic music studies, she developed a strong interest in geimprovised music. She sang for many years with the award-winning Latvian Voices and won the award for Best Composition from the Dutch Jazz Competition 2012.
