Miroslav Petkov, born in the Bulgarian port city of Varna, began playing the trumpet at the age of eleven. Barely a month later, he was accepted into the Dobri Hristov National Academy of Arts. He continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold. Before joining the Concertgebouw Orchestra in August 2016, he served as principal trumpeter at the National Theater in Mannheim. In addition to the classical repertoire, Miro Petkov regularly performs folk music, which he enjoys spicing up with jazz elements. ‘It helps me broaden my perspective. Folk music is the foundation of much classical music.’
